Music is powerful. It stirs up emotions, triggers memories and affects our mood – both positively and negatively. We can hear a song and instantly be transported back to a happy moment, or a heartbreaking one. Music can depress us or it can lift us up. Hundreds of thousands of people flock together regularly to gigs and festivals, like Glastonbury last weekend.
I can’t listen to music with lyrics while I write. Words won’t come out of my fingers if they’re coming in my ears at the same time – they all get smushed together in my head 🙂 But there are SO many songs that capture the emotion and narrative of different bits of the books in the Enturi Saga, which I’ve pulled into a playlist over the last 12 years. It’s really helped centre me in the story, and re-immerse myself emotionally whenever I’ve had a break from writing it.
Some of the songs are key for my own journey too. “Gold” by Owl City and “This Is The Time” by Superchick encouraged me to start – and continue – writing. “Dancing In The Moonlight” is my song-guaranteed-to-get-you-on-the-dance-floor track. “She Drives Me Crazy” takes me straight back to being a teenager. Two Steps From Hell is the only music I can listen to when writing (if I’m somewhere noisy and need to block out background noise) and is super inspiring for writing epic bits.
Now you too can share the highs and lows of the action and emotion of the books through music! Whether you’ve already read “Give Me The Stars” and fancy experiencing it musically as well (maybe trying to spot which songs map onto which situation) or haven’t dived into it yet but fancy getting a taste of it aurally first, the Enturi Saga Soundtrack playlist is now available on Spotify! It’s quite an eclectic mix – I hope you love it as much as I do but, more importantly, that it transports you somewhere wonderful…

Hi, I'm Mel (you figured that out already though, right?!) and this is where I chat about things that relate to and inspire my writing, as well as share some of it.
